Giving birth to that bundle of joy does not mean going back to the pre-pregnancy weight in an instant. Remember that the additional pounds have been deposited for the past 38-40 weeks, and it is impossible to withdraw all of them overnight. Weight is logically dramatically reduced immediately post-partum due to the fact that the baby is already out, along with the amniotic fluid and the placenta. Unfortunately, it really is impossible to return to the pre-pregnancy weight weeks after giving birth. Some women have to wait for a year or even a few years before going back to her desired weight. As a general rule, weight loss of approximately 1-2 lbs every week is already considered successful. Losing more than this is not healthy anymore and should therefore be avoided. Likewise, not shedding the extra pounds is also unhealthy since this may lead to obesity later in life and eventually result in cardiovascular diseases.

Right timing to lose weight after pregnancy

Right timing is important to enable the body to recover from the processes of labor and giving birth. Proper nutrition during the first few weeks after delivery is still extremely essential especially if the mother decides to breastfeed. Most women need an average of 1200 calories per day to stay healthy. This should be kept in mind especially once breastfeeding is started since the infant now becomes dependent on the nutritional status of the mother.

Health Care Professionals recommend weight reducing regimens 6 weeks after giving birth. The regimen may include a low fat, low calorie, high fiber diet, and exercise.
